  1. Even in the olden days you had jumper wires. The strain in that bend, that pin does not deserve this.
    This is r/techsupportgore material.

  2. A gloriously low-tech fix. To be fair, that’s probably what I would do for a small run. Bettercleaner with a jumper but it’s not stupid if it works!

    Also smiling a bit at the thought of what they’d have done if both pins needed swapping!

  3. Back in the days redoing a PCB wasn’t as easy as nowadays. I’m always surprised about how many retro PCBs have jumpers or RC delays

  4. I hope the pin they cut off is not a floating input. You’re supposed to tie those to a pull up resistor.

  5. We used to have to do those all the time. A ECN (engineering change notification) would come down from the designers to tell us to make a change like this or putting a jumper wire, etc.

  6. Maybe the layout was for a different part and this was a work around for a part that was available.

  7. A couple of redirected pins like that is no problem. That coin cell holder hot glued to the top of the chip though, ugh.
