It sounds to me like the other LEDs are the ones that are backwards. An LED almost always has the flat edge and shorter leg on the **cathode** (-ve). In 20 ish years of electronics, both hobbyist and professional, I have only a few times encountered LEDs with the flat edge and short leg on the anode. Cathode is overwhelmingly the norm, even if it’s not actually a standard.
