This blows my mind when you actually look at them side by side. How much better the dielectrics got both reducing the area required for a given capacitance and preventing breakdown.
Also, yes I know they’re 450V rated. No I’m not using them as the replacement. The 500V ones won’t be much larger, and certainly not the size of that can!
I don’t expect the newer smaller one to last as long as old one though.
Let me guess… You just watched CuriousMarc’s video on restoring an old high voltage power supply, where he swapped one for the other.
