The power of a normal low voltage capacitor is amazing. Even one from 35+ years ago, that appears to have leaked, is still “Wow that’s a lot of power.”. 5

  1. Post menu won’t let me add flair, should folks wonder why there is no flair.

  2. Probably not leakage, just glue or goop of some sort

  3. Try the 430v cap in a camera flash ….be careful it can kill …I had 1/8 inch balls of burnt skin and felt like someone danced on my chest with golf cleats. Hand to hand across my chest , thank God it finally discharged enough to let my grip lose.

  4. In my early teens 40+ years ago I loved getting huge electrolytics out of scrapped linear PSUs and TVs. Got one the size of a baked bean tin once!

While making spitting globules of molten copper wire and welding screwdrivers together was fun, nothing beat wiring them backwards and letting them blow. Not inside the house though as I quickly learned.

  5. Make a bank of them and tings can get “off the rails”…..incert rail gun pun here ….lol
