  1. 555? Wiring looks familiar with 2 resistors and a cap plus LED resistor and LED itself.

  2. Veroboard ftw.

Tricks I learned 30 years ago:

    1. 3 or 4mm drill bit is the perfect tool to “break a track”. Just use your fingers to twist it, nothing else.
    2. Scalpel or “hobby knife” type thing. Great for tidy up and general use.
    3. 1200/2400 grit wet/dry. When you buy vero, it usually has a coating. rub it over lightly so you dont have a hard time getting the solder to stick (or using excessive temps to burn the coating off which potentially damage the component).
    4. Solder Wick. Always out performs a “blackhead remover” solder pump. (unless you have a solder remover “machine”.
    5. Buy a roll(s) of enamel coated copper wire. Unless you need to identify wiring, it is much easier to lay out, and being enamel coated it doesnt matter if it touches one another.
    6. On the note of Enamelled Copper wire: Best way to clean the enamel off the end so you can apply solder, is to use a cigarette lighter or mini torch. Burn it off, let it cool for a few seconds, and then get some of that wet/dry paper and give the wire end a little twist in it (like wiping the end of your finger)
    7. That wire is also great for fixing/changing designs when you, say, used the drill bit to break a track, and change you mind.
    8. Resistor leads are way longer than normally needed. Don’t chuck them all when you trim though. They are handy in a pinch for standoffs, or joins or links!
