Here is /u/Limousine1968’s story:
“Okay, here’s my [*selenium] rectifier story: My DeVry lab instructor was showing us replacement for the SR and said in the old days the TV repairman came to the house and the housewife said, “the TV’s in there and I apologize for the smell. The baby has something and the diapers have started to smell terrible.”
So you replace the SR, fix the TV, and cure the baby’s issues all at once!”
Maybe if you bend those solder lugs 90^^o . I hear surface mount is all the rage; no messy holes to drill. Except those two for the zip tie to hold the selenium rectifier in place.
Well, it says through hole right next to surface mount meaning you can do both. Most passive through hole components can be soldered on surface mount pads, no problem. Just bend the legs 90 degrees.

I have no use for a selenium rectifier, but after today I find myself wanting to buy one.
