  1. LEDs make pretty poor voltage references because the forward voltage depends on temperature (exponentially) and the current through the diode.

    So this is a cute hack but not really something actually usable if you care about the voltage regulation.

    Served me well, but now when I have a better one I would never switch back.

  4. I can’t see if there’s a decimal point or not, is that 600 or 60mA running through the LED? Wouldn’t running 600mA through an LED make it rather … not long for this world? I thought even 60mA was a lot for a single LED, particularly a red one.
