I just tinned a new Weller soldering iron for the first time. I applied paste flux to the tip and wrapped solder around it prior to turning it on. Once the solder had melted, I pushed the ball of solder around a bit to make sure it flowed, and then reapplied more and wiped it off on a damp sponge before returning it to the cradle and letting it cool.
Is this what it should look like after it has cooled down and is ready to sit before being turned on again later? I have seen zillions of guides on tinning a soldering iron but none had pictures of what I should expect to see after I’m done working with it for the day (and before the next time I turn it on). Any thoughts or, if I’ve done something dumb, how to improve on it instead? Thanks.
