Prolific is doing the same thing FTDI did in 2014 – messing with drivers of end customers due to fake devices. Since customer cannot really verify if their cable is the original PL2303 chip or not, any Prolific device might stop working.
PS: Manually downgrading driver does work so it’s not as bad as FTDI.

Handy to know! But shit this could make Monday interesting! I work in marine electronics and use serial ports for everything.
