  1. Fine by me as long as you are within 20% tolerances.

    I have saved a few devices with leaded tantalum capacitors to replace exploded SMT ones. The first ones were hard but doable to obtain, the latter had 24months lead time. And my repairs, that needed to hold for a few days top, did not look half as good as yours.

  2. I don’t know much of anything, but I’m more pondering why the rest of the boards didn’t use these resistors. Are the smaller ones more economical? What properties make surface mounted ones better?

  3. I would put a dab of glue down to hold it in place. You don’t want to rip up pads on accident.
