OMG my first gateway drug to electronics was when my HAM radio operator uncle gave me a crystal radio kit. I climbed a tree and put up an antenna (basically a lightning rod terminating in my bedroom) and tuned in the world!
This one one of my first electronics projects. It came as a 150 in 1 project kit when I was a kid. Back when RadioShack sold more electronics in the late 80s.
There’s nothing quite like hearing the results (quite literally) of your own work. I’ve built so many radios, tube radios, crystal radios, even digital radios.

I am working on one myself. What did you coat the coils in?

Looks cool. I built one when I was a kid… It was awesome. It worked for years – always on!

The beauty is in the simplicity.
